Nicotine polacrilex lozenges and gum deliver nicotine to the bloodstream through oral surfaces. To make them most effective, the directions advise users to avoid eating or drinking 15 minutes before. Otherwise, saliva builds up between the polacrilex polymer and oral surfaces or washes it away.
nicotine is only part of my habit! Caffeine is the other, usually in the form of black coffee. A concentrated astringent like tannins from coffee, tea or unripe persimmons would turn off those pesky salivary glands. This way, more of the nicotine would diffuse through oral surfaces that aren't blocked.

||Would it not be simpler to go for cigarettes plus black
coffee? They are both glorious and natural.
||1st of all ween off completely nicotine is a drab thing to have as a life partner, and 2nd of all I don't believe you have the relationship between tannins and salivation completely correct.
||Ah well this is interesting because tannins precipitate alkaloids, among other
things, and reduce their absorption by denaturing mediator proteins, so you
aren't going to be able to use them without completely cancelling out the
nicotine unless you up the nicotine. Something i don't know and have long
wondered: are the tannins found in particular species of plant in some way
compatible with the particular alkaloids in those plants? Otherwise, could you
use these as a placebo? Or, could you use a different astringent? There are
others, for example alum, which is harmful though, and possibly "silicic acid"
and something unidentified found in Calendula officinalis.
||Not all mucous membranes are subject to salivary washings. Give a moment to consideration of the narrowmindedness of Nicotine polacrilex manufacturers, and the bodily splendor with which you have been endowed.
||Even you. "Splendor" is used in the broadest sense.
