Olympic Egg and Spoon Race

Just like the egg and spoon race children play on school sports days, in which they run across a bumpy grass surface while holding a spoon with an egg in it, but played at Olympic level.

The weight, size and age of the egg will be governed by rules, as will the size, radius of bowl-curvature and coefficient of friction of the spoon. The race will be a 100m race on a grass surface with contestants incurring a 0.1s penalty for every dropped egg.

There will be a 'modern biathalon' version in which contestants will stop at the halfway point to throw (20cm diameter) wooden hoops over a (2cm diameter, 50cm high) post 10 metres away, while holding the egg and spoon in their other hand.

Are there any robot Olympics? I'd like to see robots engaging in (full contact) egg and spoon races.

Would make a nice addition to the moguls.
RayfordSteele, Mar 01 2010

Howzabout for the biathlon they have to carry the egg down to the finish line, then throw it at a target? There can be two categories; chuck the egg by hand, and lofting it gently from the spoon itself.

(I accidentally wote "lofting" as "loftinging" and kind of liked it.) [+]

       are the eggs hard-boiled?
po, Mar 01 2010

The international governing body for egg-and-spoon races, FIOCC (Fédération Internationale de l'Ouf et une Cuillère de Course) stipulates that large unboiled hens' eggs should be used. The fluid dynamical properties of the interior of the unboiled egg present a more challenging balancing problem to the competitor.

       of course, silly me.

well, there must be a *short order cook* Olympics somewhere...

[+] Since this is the Olympics, everything ought to be done bigger and better than it usually is -- therefor, I recommend that ostrich eggs be used in the Olympic version of the sport.

hmmm, [goldbb], you make a compelling argument...
hippo, Mar 01 2010

...and they should have to wrestle the egg away from the ostrich as a timed pre-qualifier. You then go into a seeded knockout competition (assuming that the competitors haven't already been knocked out or disemboweled) with the fastest against the slowest, second fastest against second slowest etc.

What next, Olympic Sack Racing ?

Competitord also have to boil the egg, toast bread, cut into soldiers, sit down, and eat without any spillage, before crossing the finish line.

Yes sack race, also 3 legged race.
