"Let one of our attractive Lady Wingmen take you to a bar, club, mixer, or singles event. She'll provide coaching, as required, and introduce you to the women you want to meet." [bristolz, Jul 07 2005]

I'll go for this! Where can I rent a wing- man? And what is wing-man?
Basepair, Jul 07 2005

The female version of this exists. Guys hire them as escorts who act to introduce them to otherwise unapproachable women in clubs and the like.

       Get better friends.

       Never, never leave your wingman!

Part of being a successful wing-man involves knowing what to expect from your buddy. This is information that can't be bought, it can only come from experiance around him.

Nice idea though. Welcome to the 'bakery.

So, a Wingman is some sort of cupid kind of person?

I want one! I need to meet someone interesting.
Pericles, Jul 11 2005

The Maxim article in the link makes a wingman sound like some sort of enabling pimp.
The bit about rescuing your friend from a serious relationship with a woman and getting him back into the bar scene was bizarre.
The Maxim wingman relationship reeks of latent homosexuality.

I don't know why, but I read this as 'rent a ringworm' (+)
gorjabuble, Jul 12 2005

It comes from the military, [baconbrain] - what did you expect?

Don't like this. It smacks too much of macho idiots who wish they lived in Top Gun instead of in Clapham South. Friends are friends - a wingman is someone who follows you around in a fighter jet and shoots at people who are trying to kill you. If you want friends to run spoiler for you, I recommend cultivating married friends. These tend to be more generous since they have no vested interest in seeing you crash and burn.

Welcome to the HB, by the way ;)
