You know... for lunch.

I finished sending a text message and authorised the Paypal transaction, then cracked open the office window and sat back at my desk, leaving a small LASER designator on the window sill.

Far below, I heard a whooshing sound.

Moments later, with a couple of pigeon feathers clinging to the wrapper, a footlong sub came in through the window, glancing off the window mullion and landing in front of my computer. Perfect! Pepperoni, artichokes, mozzarella, tomatoes, kalamata olives and radicchio leaves. Yum!

Sure, it took a little to set up your exact location and to get the trajectory perfect on windy days but it was a cool way to collect your lunch.

Sometimes I liked to watch as the multiple orders were launched from the street corner, in a rapid salvo, by the lunch lady, Leeshya, who learned her artillery skills as a trainer on BM-27 units in Chechnya, for the Russian military.

       Cargo rounds for snacks?

...closing the window and settling back to enjoy his sandwich, [Ubie] was blissfully unaware that one of his many friends was ordering him a couple of rounds of high-velocity Coke.

       This feels very familiar.

I did something like it in about 2003 or 2004, I think, [2 fries].

Catapults, no trebuchets... and a little oriental dude maybe?

Sounds familiar. I think it was "Lunch Launch Site" or something like that. Fruit stall, with an air cannon.

If you took an existing cargo round design, and replaced the grenades with small packages of high- energy food, and launched from a high- end MLRS, then the cargo could just about clear the 80-odd kilometres of contested airspace which currently separate the hungry garrison of Mariupol from the nearest friendly forces.

Suggested payloads include Salo (Ukrainian pork-fat dish), and Kendal Mint Cake, fluttering down on little parachutes.
