Toasties
A Starbucks-like chain of cafes that specialize in toast. | |
You could have exotic or gourmet jams and butters,
different types of bread, etc.
You would strive to create a complete toast culture -- sell
books, jam, butter, bread, toasters.
Instead of "baristas", you could have "tostadoras" (the babelfish Spanish equivalent of "toasters".)

Did anyone else read "Grimble" (by Clement Freud) when they were a child? Very funny children's book. Grimble starts a "Toast Home Delivery Service" for his local neighbourhood, posting toast into people's letterboxes in the morning. |

Actually, it would be interesting to build a toast vending machine. The sliced bread would be kept frozen within the machine, for freshness. You put your money in and a slice is quickly toasted, sprayed on one side with butter, dropped into a paper napkin and delivered with a small container (peel the lid off; use it as a spreader) of jam, marmalade, marmite, etc. |
You need a chemical hook to keep
'em coming back. Starbucks has
caffeine; what would you use? |
``One whole wheat, honey butter,
extra Prozac.'' |

When I was in college, some friends and I actually started a small
toast delivery service. For 20 cents, you got your choice of bread
and topping served hot to your doorstep. We called
ourselves "Toast!", and had several regular customers. |

this is brilliant. toast is a fobulous and under-appreciated part of our culture. |

Personally, I am crazy about toasties with filling (a.k.a. Croque Monsieurs): a toasted sandwich with cheese / cheese and tomato / blue cheese and pear / cheese and sweet pepper or any other kind of delicious cheese-containing filling which melts as you toast it. I have often fantasized about starting a coffeeshop serving a wide variety of those.
Getting them out of a vending machine at the train station when I'm on my way home from work would be great, although I would also settle for your great plain toast vending machine, hippo, or your toast delivery service, baf.
Of course, any required chemical hooks are provided by the delicious ingredients. |

butter and marmite, cold cheese, marmalade, gin & tonic; accidentally discovered |

Exactly which part was accidental? (My money's on the Marmite.) |

There is/was a restaraunt in the Merchant City area of Glasgow (UK) called "Toast." It sells toast, mostly. |
We had a toasted sandwhich vending machine at university. It was hideously overpriced. |
Bread+
Cheese+
Ham+
More bread=
Too much money. |
japan rocks. btw the vending machine says "toast
sandwiches" |
Really ? There was no audio when we looked at the link ... |
Grimble? Hell yes. Best thing about Jackanory.(That and the Impecunious Hero. And Kenneth Williams) |
After I read this, I went to Quiznos... |
that should have been its name: "Toast, Mostly" |
I still* think that a toast vending machine would be a good idea. If no one's going to make one, maybe one day I'll post it here as an idea.
