unfinished book list

Associate people by their reasons for not finishing what they've started

Rather than listing books you haven't read (and have no clue about) or books you were forced to read for school, training, etc., a site should allow users to list books they've started but never finished.

Users would enter the title of each unfinished book, and select the reason it remains unfinished from a finite list, with reasons like "no time to read," "Lost this book," "Irreconcilable political/religious differences with author," etc.

Presumably required reading would have been finished, and books on topics users weren't interested in never would have been started. This would allow users to find people who dislike the same books for the same reasons, as opposed to people who bought the same books as gifts for relatives.

How about books I never read at all? This way, you can share these books, and then maybe later you can read them together. It will be a bonding experience.

You can't unread a book with someone, but if it were possible I would definitly give that a try as well.

I rather like this idea. I would rather like a chat with other people who failed to see what was so great about 'Don Quixote'.

What DrBob said, except for Gravity's Rainbow.

Books which have never been finished by anyone, such as "Ulysses" should be disqualified

I read Ulysses but never managed to get far in The Brothers Karamazov.

I have a copy of Don Quixote thats illustrated by Salvador Dali. the reason I bought it.

I was going to say the exact same thing Calum. Except I think all I would do is vent about how much time it wasted.

I kept loosing the Brothers Karamazov, but I did eventually finish it. Presumably the author of any book has read the complete book, even if the rest of us mere mortals haven't, so none are utterly unread. Though some might be utterly unreadable. . .
