Aeroplane Compartments

I do NOT mean the overhead containers.

If you've ever been on the train in Europe you'll know very well what i'm talking about. the trains there are divided into compartments with 2 rows of 3 seats facing each other in them, which is generally more comfortable than just having rows and rows of 4 seats thru the train. (cuz you have more space)

So heres my idea: Instead of having rows and rows of 7 seats and 2 corridors, have compartments with 6 seats on both sides of the plane, and then put a wide corridor in the middle. and keep the whole music and in-flight movie thing. and there will be overhead containers in your compartment.

It'll cost more. But sure, why not. (Because it will take up more space. People are fairly comfortable with the back of another person's head a mere 19 inches in front of their face, but they want more like 36 inches face to face. Also think about leg room. In a typical airline row your legs are under the person in front of you, so passengers are effectively stacked. You cannot do this with people facing each other.)

Obviously you have never been on a european train. there is plenty of legroom compared to how it is with the american layout.

Plenty of legroom on a train, not on an airplane.

       Being 6ft 3, I'll vouch for that.

Train compartments are being slowly phased out in Europe. The main problem with them is that you can't stretch your legs when they're full.

you dont really have legroom in the "rows of seats" layout either.

and do you really think they are trying to phase it all out when they know have mordernised versions of those cars with compartments? Cause to me that is obvious sign that there is no plan to phase them out.

They used to be common in the UK. To my knowledge, they are no longer in use; I think the south-east got rid of the last of them relatively recently.

they are still prevalnt in continental Europe.
