Balloon elevator

Massive consumption of rubber

When entering a balloon elevator, you can push two buttons. 'Inflate' or 'Deflate'. The former pumps balloons full of air at the base of the elevator through small holes, pushing everyone upward. The latter produces needles through smaller holes.

For 50¢ extra per ride you can inflate with helium instead of air, just to mix it up!

( Yes I know... The most novel part of this idea is buying something for 50¢)

Balloon lifted lift [pocmloc, Oct 04 2022]

Not a balloon elevator https://www.vacuume...pneumatic-elevator/
but a related concept [a1, Oct 05 2022]

Rather than needles for deflation, it should have a release valve - a particularly noisy one, like a whoopie cushion.

Instead of the massive waste, perhaps a "Hullaballoon" type of mechanism

I'm thinking of pumped hydro power storage, but with balloons.

Funny, I was looking up pneumatic elevators in relation to mylodon’s idea and did see a design for one that used water as a counterweight. I’ll find the link for you.
