In the US and Canada, and possibly in other states as well, tobacco products are required to display a large, garish warning on the outside of the packaging. Since the warning label completely ruins the aesthetics of the package, tobacco companies should distribute a sticker to cover up the warning
label with the purchase of the product. The sticker is printed with the portion of the cigarette box artwork that is masked by the warning label.

I suspect it would be illegal for the tobacco
companies to do this. I do remember one
company did for a time include a card in the
packet, which could be slipped inside the
cellophane wrapper for this purpose. |

The point is that smokers must not only be
punished, but must be seen to be punished.
Every era needs a group of people it can look
down on. |
On the plus side, sales of elegant cigarette cases
are on the increase. |
I'd love to see a warning label pointing out that in a study of centenarians, people over 100 years old, 60% of the men smoked. |
Not exercising and drinking seems to help too according to the numbers. That would be something to put on the beer cans though, not the cigarette packs. God would I love to direct the commercial for that. |

"Bob worked out 1 hour each day while Bill spent that time drinking. Bob died at 75 while Bill lived to be 100. But let's not forget to subtract the 2.5 years Bob spent working out during his life while Bill spent his time getting happily drunk. |

Something to think about from the folks at Remulac Brewery, makers of Slackerbrau." |

That being said, good luck quitting smoking big, it's a filthy habbit. Glad I got that monkey off my back a long time ago. |
'monkey off my back' sounds like a good image for a sticker; maybe a smiling mandrill. |
What about stickerbots that whoosh up to anyone about to light up and slap a warning sticker over hisorher mouth? |

[21Q], I agree (as a smoker) that the time has past
for tobacco smokers to stop suing the manufacturers
(do they still do that? I guess so). But, at least in
the UK, I am pretty sure that the government-
mandated health warnings are not there to protect
the tobacco companies. |

Just out of curiosity, what percentage of the total
male population smoked in that age range
(whether
they made it to 100 or not)? I suspect its higher
than 60%. |
Edit to add: Found an article on the report. 75%
of their comparison group smoked. |
ETA: And the total appears to be 80% for the age
groups surveyed. |
So while smoking may not be a certain death,
there seems to be some evidence it doesn't help. |

Oh, please. Everybody's always known smoking was
bad for you, notwithstanding anything the tobacco
companies said. The lawsuits against the tobacco
companies were strictly a money grab by greedy
assholes with no sense of personal responsibility. |
