Garage Floor Sweeper/Blower

Combine the force of air and mechanical engineering to instantly and effortlessly clear the garage floor of any dust, leaves, and other natural debris brought in by wind and car tires.

This device is like a leaf-blower, but more specific, and not hand-held. This is a machine that would be installed and rigged to work at the flick of a switch on the wall. It uses a system of near floor-level ducts on the back wall of the garage to quickly blow all leaves, acorns, bugs, and other debris constantly building up in the garage, back out into nature. (The ducts would be directed toward outside.)

The force of the air should be just enough to push typical garage floor messes just past the opened garage door. Rather than pushing a broom across the entire garage floor for half an hour, simply flick a switch and get rid of small dust and debris, even with your car parked in the garage, in just seconds. If larger debris (like chunks of tree bark) doesn't quite make it out the garage, it's still easier to sweep just the end of the garage if necessary.

What if you have various and asundry things piled up in one "bay" of your garage (like moving boxes, bicycles, riding lawn mowers, trash cans, etc.) Wouldn't you have to move all of this stuff out of the way just to "blow" this section of the garage?
muzer, Oct 10 2003

I say cut out this small stuff and convert your garage to a wind tunnel. Spotlessly clean, and you can check the drag of your car's profile daily to see what effect the new shopping car dents have.

I've lost count of the times, as children, we had to sit in the car while my Mom insisted on quickly sweeping some stuff out of the garage that she noticed on the way out. This idea would have saved us a bunch of time.

The deluxe version could have a finely perforated garage floor slab built atop a pressurized plenum, akin to an airhockey table surface, so that debris will float above the surface, easing the vacuum's ability to suck it up.

Hey! That could help levitate all of that "crap" that is sitting in the other bay of my garage!

I think you can leave your stuff where it is and just blow around it, especially the bikes and mower, which only touch the ground at the wheels. That's the beauty part.

[bristolz]: I love your airhockey idea!

In my experience blowing dust and debris results in an updraught or billow effect. Is that the intent? Dust and grass clippings won't all hold to the floor to be scooted out you know. I worry about raising a cloud of dust just before I try to go for a drive.

But other than that, I think the idea has merit.

Good point, [k_sra], about the behaviour of dust and wind. Perhaps some design-tweaking is in order. The air jets need to be directed just so, perhaps in a downward direction.

       Dust storm...

That's a lot of wind power needed if you are not moving it around like with a leaf blower - I'm thinking something like some big rotationary bladed air movers - call them "fans"...
