Micro Acid Branding

fingerprint modification

This body modification treatment could be employed at beauty, piercing and tattoo parlors. With a discreet amount of acid on a small stamp, a brand could be etched into the skin of a finger or toe.

The resulting image, taking the place of some of the skin’s ridges and grooves, could be viewed directly or via a fingerprint. The first brand motif might be tiny, patterned animals such as a tiger, Dalmatian or zebra (see example below).

Good idea, but could this also be achieved using lasers? They seem more accurate, and avoid the issue of neutralizing leftover acid.

Originally, I imagined using microprint for branding another kind of acid...

I can imagine removing an area of fingerprint with acid, but how do you add fingerprint? Even with only removing, +.

The zebra's white stripes are new deeper grooves and the black stripes are new ridges on level with the old grooves (making the example fuzzier around the edges). Maybe two stamps could be used or different amounts of acid on different parts of one stamp.

About the stamps. I'd go with standard chipmaking techniques. Dip the finger in a photosensitive polymer, shine a light on the finger with a zebra-shaped mask (this cures the polymer except in a zebra shape), acid wash the finger (this removes skin from the zebra area), rinse, the use a solvent to remove the polymer. Much finer detail would be possible compared to a stamp.
