EVERY member of the golf club must attend this contest. One club and only one club (including putter) must be used for the whole game. Personally, I would use a 5 wood.

Because normally they would have several clubs, and using only one would hinder their performance considerably. |

A better challenge would be an all pro tournament, but with an assortment of non-club items with which the pros must play. I heard a story once about the hacker who accused the golf ace of winning only because of the fancy high end clubs he used, and so the golf ace beat him with a coke bottle tied to a tree branch. |

I attended an open tournament down on Dartmoor where the club professional drove & landed the ball on the first green with a putter.
The hole is about 306yds downhill to a very tight green with water right in front of it. Only one other person drove the green (using a driver) but was just out the back.
The rest of us used a 7 or 8 iron to the front of the water (about 250 yds!) and chipped on.
4 iron or 5 wood would be my choice BTW.

I sometimes play "Speed Golf" with my younger brother (and before anyone mentions it, yes, it probably would be better to use golf clubs instead. Ha bloody ha.) The way we play it, you grab three clubs (or just two if you want to cut down on weight), and just try to batter your ball around the course as fast as you can. The number of strokes you take doesn't matter; it's just the time it takes you to get round the course that determines the winner. |

Dare you take the time to get your breath back before hitting your next shot, or should you just hit it and hope for the best? When your opponent is sprinting past you towards their ball, you barely have the time to decide. Things can get relly hectic when you're both putting simultaneously at the same hole - should you try to hole your two-foot putt with sweaty hands and a heaving chest, or should you just try to knock your opponent's ball out of the way, seeing as it already seems to be heading towards the hole? |

A game with shades of croquet, hockey, and even pool about it. Definitely scuppers that hoary old cliche of golf just being "a good walk spoiled". |

The longest *successful* putt was at Strathtyrum in St. Andrews on the par 4 9th. 307 yards to be exact, by a John McIntyre in May this year.
Limited club tournaments are baked where I am in Scotland - I played a four club challenge in Crail recently. This works well on Links courses. |

I have never once golfed in my entire life save arcade putting stuff but if I were to try and make the longest drive I would be sure to do it on a large frozen lake. |

But I would probably pick the 4 wood (i don't have a 5). Damn most reliable club in my bag. Chipping would be an issue though. Perhaps a 9 iron would be a better choice. |
