Way to quit smoking: cut off access with credit card

Have a credit card for smokers that limits the amount they can buy

Smokers who want to quit sign up for a special credit card. The card is accepted anywhere regular ones are. But this card won't let the person buy cigarettes after they've reached a certain limit. It slowly weans them off cigarettes until they can't buy any with it. Good supplament to will-power/quitting cold turkey. Could be used for alcohol addicts as well.

You've never really been addicted to anything have you?

What's to stop the use of old-fashioned cash?

Smokers who want to quit just quit. Those who say that they want to quit think of excuses why they haven't.

how about people that want to quit smoking get a chip implanted behind the neck. every time they enter a store that sells cigarettes, a sensor goes of telling the shop owner not to sell that person cigs via a nationally funded anti-smoking campaign. just stop smoking if you want to quit. sorry. fishbone.

Or why not tell yourself this fact " Every Cigarette Takes 11 Minutes Off Man's Life " every time you feel like smoking one...!! Then probably with a willingness to live longer, one quits are atleast makes a try to quit smoking

Maybe they should put carcinogens in cigarettes. That would stop people smoking.
theleopard, Jan 11 2007

Or just tax them so that they're very expensive.

"Well you know. Smoking takes ten years off your life." Well it's the ten worst years, isn't it folks? It's the ones at the end! It's the wheelchair kidney dialysis fucking years. You can have those years! We don't want 'em, alright!?

       "think a little before posting"!!!???

F*ck that. An idea can't be halfbaked AND thought out. Remember what a famous philosopher once said (possibly):

"Although your ideas are shite, you're clearly a person who likes to think about stuff and aren't afraid of others' opinions, so keep 'em coming, even if they do arouse the overactive organs of sanctimony of many more practised 'bakers."

Smokers - never forget: NOBODY LIKES A QUITTER.

Coincidentally, as of this year, all the cigarette vending machines here in Germany require the user to insert their cash card prior to receiving their ciggies whether paying with the card or with cash. The person's age is stored on the card's chip, you see, and anyone under 16 is refused an immediate nicotine fix and have to wait until they can go to the shops or petrol station.

Those crazy Germans. What will they think of next?

People would just cut down on groceries and other luxuries and use the spare cash to buy more cigarettes.
BunsenHoneydew, Jan 12 2007

//What's to stop the use of old-fashioned cash?//

The user could avoid carrying cash around, and the card could require notice in advance for withdrawing cash.

//how about people that want to quit smoking get a chip implanted behind the neck. every time they enter a store that sells cigarettes, a sensor goes of telling the shop owner not to sell that person cigs via a nationally funded anti-smoking campaign.//

There would be no advantage for a shop owner to join that system, but there is an advantage for shop owners to accept all types of cards they can, e.g. selling groceries, or the allowed number of cigarettes to the user of the restricted card.

It could work to prevent impulse purchases where the buyer would decide not to buy the stuff if you force upon them the extra time to consider it. If only people knew in advance what they're likely to regret buying this idea could apply to all of them.

//The user could avoid carrying cash around//

and never go to a pub, or use a bus, or buy a newspaper. Come on, [Cam], this is unworkable. If someone wants to stop smoking (like I did), he'll stop (like I did).

       (Well done [Angel])

This is a bad idea, how ever you dress it up.
