If it's about the gambling, the Vacaville Bulldogs vs the Rodriguez Mustangs are just as good as the Niners Chiefs

To keep people from freaking out, 90% of the money goes to the school's athletic programs that are being wagered on.

Prediction from 2018 https://www.nfhs.or...-high-school-games/
A side effect of decision in Murphy, Governor of New Jersey, v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, that states might legalize gambling on many sports, down to high school athletics [a1, Feb 13 2024]

If it's ONLY about gambling, what kind of bug hits the windshield next is just as good as the Niners/Chiefs.

//90% of the money goes to the school's athletic programs that are being wagered on// - this would incentivise schools to change the way they play sports to make them appear to be a more attractive prospect to bet on. For example, a soccer team could give the appearance of deliberately playing badly, leading spectators to think that they were trying to improve their betting odds so that insiders could make a killing when a crucial game comes up. This would of course encourage betting on that team and thus increase revenue for the sports programme. Whatever the outcome of the gambling, it will change the way sports are played; however this could be a useful early lesson, teaching kids that sports are really all about money.
