Half a croissant, on a plate, with a sign in front of it saying '50c'

This would work fine, except in terms of success.

A display that has multiple messages like "Families are forever", and "Please knock... children sleeping", etc. You set the internal clock telling it when to specify each message. If the baby sleeps everyday from 2:00 to 3:00 then the appropriate message will automatically appear each time.

I like it.[+] I tend to be heavy handed when knocking on doors and I have unknowingly woken up babies.

Isn't it easy enough just to hang a sign, and flip it over when baby is sleeping? That's what our neighbors did.

Let's make it more automated. Attach electrodes to baby. When the brain wave patterns indicate a sleep stage then WiFi a signal to your sign. Maybe a baby cap could contain the electrodes and a tiny computer.

Make it in an adult model and I'd take one. Do Not Disturb, we're (fill in the blank*)ing."

*Eating, sleeping, showering, etc. I know what you're thinking. Pervert.
