Ceiling mounted vacuum strip
A long tube with suction all along it suspended from the ceiling that lowers to the floor and then moves across the room to vacuum up dust from the floor and all objects it rests on | |
Alternatively it could be like a curtain of individual tubes that mechanically descend and move along the floor like many arms.

Francis Gabe - self cleaning house
https://en.wikipedi...g/wiki/Frances_Gabe Her patent application stated "A self-cleaning building construction comprises apparatus for applying a fine spray or mist of water and/or water and detergent to wall, floor and ceiling surfaces, followed by warm air drying. Floors slope in a direction for removing excess moisture via a drain. Also included are closet apparatus for cleaning clothing, cupboard dishwasher apparatus for cleaning stored dishes, self-cleaning bathtub apparatus, and self-cleaning washbasin apparatus." [+] An idea I've been thinking about for a long time is sort of an upside down version of this one. A floor vent that looks like a cold air return, probably several in each room, near every doorway. A constant, low-power suction is applied and draws air down through the vent. A higher power suction could be applied at each vent, maybe by a pushbutton on a nearby wall. |

Reason I never posted it - it doesn't seem half-baked enough. Could be a simple enhancement of existing central vacuum systems, running at a low volume all the time would reduce dust floating in the air. |

Don't clean rooms basically work like that? I was in a climate controlled space once where the air was changed every minute. |

Yes, pretty close. Exactly where the vents are in clean rooms may vary. For my suggested residential use I'd put them in the floor near each doorway or passage between rooms. Where they wouldn't get blocked by furniture. |

Right but the floor walls ceiling could be grilles and the furniture could be wicker or mesh |

Francis Gabe (link) had all this and more... |

And I think I recall another self cleaning house design earlier than hers, but I'm not sure. |
