       You could coil it up and put it in a box marked “Jumping Rope” - and when someone comes along and opens the lid, it jumps out at them.

       There might be some kind bi-metalic strip encased by the rope that can make it jerk into two positions. The batteries to power it would be contained within the handles at either end.
