Or, trying to glam up science. Abandon the white coats and go for the Captain Jack Sparrow look, thence storm the chem lab!

There is some reality behind this as quite a lot of astronomy and navigation, not to mention weapons tech, banking, number theory..

I mean, if we look at the "The Gold Bug", it seems the pirate treasure was buried by someone with knowledge of dead reckoning, extremely dead in this.

Not to mention the contribution to anthropology, with some crusty pirate in Sumatra going "Aaar thropoid" and being hideousky misquoted

As for the contribution to maths, they did let the side down by sticking with the roman numerals, but then encoporated in a slim, number based command and reply system. Item 2 on the list would be "I I captain", you know it all makes sense

Annotation:

If this were set in a laboratory that worked on additives for the jellybean industry, it could be called "Pirates of the Carrageenan".

And so to the peg legged, hook handed, one eyed applicant across the desk I said, "BS in Chemistry and an internship at DOW ?" . "Aye" she replied.

You can start with the policy that those scientists who don't publish in open access journals will be pirated.
