2TEU Tourism

This is a habitable insert to the 40’ standard shipping container, which is 2 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit), complete with all the amenities and stores necessary for the voyage. (Needs a better name.)

3 out of 4 2TEU containers leaving California for Asia are empty, deadheading back for another load. At all the world’s ports empty containers are being returned by consuming countries to be refilled and reused by producing countries.

In the US 2TEU Tourism is targeted at residents who want to go to Asia and don’t care if it takes 3 weeks. You get a 2TEU with a window and a guaranteed view, satellite comms, and luxurious appointments. You can go ‘bare boat’ or contract an additional 2TEU or more for more room or staff. Great for business retreats.

As an example for Europe, it will take you ~35 days to get to Vung Tau, Vietnam from Rotterdam in your 2TEU (Needs a catchy name.)

You book like a boat rental, with the amenities and stores charged appropriately. Your return fare can be arranged for you, and in some cases a deadheading 2TEU will be available for a continued voyage. (Still needs a catchy name.)

I really like the concept as a 'bakery idea.

       However, two issues:

One, a surplus of inserts will build up in Asia unless we find a way to recycle them.

Two, given the current administration, there will be additional complications.

What we need is a global migrant work force like a flying squad that addresses upcoming crop, industrial, and social issues. If it was well-planned enough, the tourism aspect would be secondary to the delivery of competent, well-paid, itinerant migrant workers moving in waves around the planet and partying at sea during their voyages. This would avoid the buildup of Liveheading units in one region.
