GLENDOWER

I can call spirits from the vasty deep.

HOTSPUR

Why, so can I, or so can any man; But will they come when you do call for them?

... Anyway, it's nine years since I last tried calling 'bakers from the vasty deep (or the Home Counties, anyway). It was good last time, and I will try again.

I shall be in London for the first two weeks of July, except for the weekend in the middle, and any days that get filled up with other commitments as I go along.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, umm... Friday 14th?
Supper from 7:00, pub from 8:00, like last time? Exactly which supper and pub to be decided, but central London somewhere.

Interestingly, both locations are found within the bounding box described by Charterhouse Street, Farringdon Road(Street), Hatton Garden and Greville St. [zen_tom, Jul 12 2017]

Arse. I shall be out of the country on that date.
hippo, May 02 2017

I will probably be face-down in a plate of mashed potato, location to be confirmed.
bigsleep, May 02 2017

I've never been to one so I'm in. I'll wear the recognition hat.
DenholmRicshaw, May 02 2017

       I should be about
Dub, May 02 2017

Half a loaf, half a loaf, half a loaf onward rode the six bakers.
popbottle, May 02 2017

Tell me more about these spirits.
AbsintheWithoutLeave, May 03 2017

Mine will be good. Hope yours will be too.
pertinax, May 03 2017

       JEALOUS.
blissmiss, May 08 2017

//Arse. I shall be out of the country//

So shall I: I shall have gone to England.
pertinax, May 09 2017

9 years!? Crikey, time flies when you're...ah rats.

I look forward to a triad of supping, pubbing, and spiriting, and what's more, believe I will be located within the bounds of the appropriate country at the aforementioned time.
zen_tom, May 09 2017

agendum addendum: to pledge the health of [blissmiss], and other absent friends.
pertinax, May 11 2017

//I shall have gone to England//

sp.: "they would have been going to England"
hippo, May 11 2017

//I look forward to a triad of supping, pubbing, and spiriting, //

Bearing in mind that a plate of mashed potato is bound to be involved, we need to arrange the location of a darkened room ahead of schedule.

sp.: "they would have been going to England"

It would need to be some kind of Wunderbar.
bigsleep, May 11 2017

       Still on?
Ian Tindale, Jun 25 2017

Absolutely. My flight leaves early on Friday. With a little luck, I shall be on it. Only such details as time, place and means of recognition remain to be resolved.
pertinax, Jun 26 2017

Just wear a croissant or a rotting fish carcass in your buttonhole, or ... (see link)
hippo, Jun 26 2017

One thing we didn't manage to bring about last time around was skypery for absent friends. Would there be any takers for that this time around?
pertinax, Jun 27 2017

       Yup.
blissmiss, Jun 27 2017

       Right. Focus.

Let's say we do the same venues as last time, because I've run out of time to have original ideas in this connection. So, the upstairs bistro of the Bleeding Heart restaurant, followed later on by Ye Olde Mitre.

Can I get an idea of numbers for booking a table?
pertinax, Jun 27 2017

// Only such details as time, place and means of recognition remain to be resolved. // // Just wear a croissant or a rotting fish carcass in your buttonhole, or ... (see link) //

I have for a while had the idea of making some croissant lapel pins, but I have yet to get around to learning cloisonné and enameling. Actually, CNC milled or 3D printed cloisonné could be interesting. (There are companies that will make custom lapel pins, but where's the fun in that?)
notexactly, Jun 27 2017

I used to do enamelling. My dad taught us, as he is a jeweller. For as long as I remember, growing up, no matter where in the world we moved to, there was a kiln in the house. He still has it.
Ian Tindale, Jun 28 2017

I'm in - my first time - it'll be good to meet up.
DenholmRicshaw, Jun 28 2017

OK: I've set up a skype account called kippers and croissants. Anyone thinking of skyping in can make contact with that.
pertinax, Jul 02 2017

Yay, now all we need is a date, time, and a translator.
blissmiss, Jul 02 2017

Well, the date is Friday 14th, and the time (for skyping) is sometime a little after 7:00pm British Summer Time (to give people time to get comfortable). That's GMT +1. So, for example, 4:00am on Saturday if you're in Queensland, or (I think) 2pm on Friday if you're in Vermont, or 11:00am if you're in California, or something. (Could be wrong about some of those places - haven't checked for daylight saving).
pertinax, Jul 04 2017

So, I think I'll book a table for four, expecting [zen_tom], [Ian Tindale] (optimistically), [DenholmRicshaw] and myself, and expecting a virtual [blissmiss] telepresence by skype. (I'm not sure whether to read [bigsleep]'s response as a yes or a no, though of course he would be more than welcome, and mashed potato could be provided).

I will book it in the name of Sturton Buchanan, though we won't try leaving him with the bill. I'm hoping this will allow us to find each other (viz., by asking for the table in that name).

[DenholmRicshaw], since you haven't been to one of these things before, I will only say, don't forget your other shoe when we brief the Bilderberg Group about the cucumbers.

If anyone would like to communicate about this outside this page, then feel free to talk to the "kippers and croissants" skype account.
pertinax, Jul 04 2017

I won't be consuming the food, but I'll help remove some of the beer when you get to the appropriate place for that exercise.
Ian Tindale, Jul 04 2017

       shoes and cucumbers - understood
DenholmRicshaw, Jul 04 2017

Very good, I'll be along for the le shebang-tout, and have neatly pencilled the appropriate spacetime coordinates into my leather-bound personal orrery. I may nudge [Dub] and [TheLeopard] too if they've not already got something on.
zen_tom, Jul 05 2017

Ah, its naked again this year?
Ian Tindale, Jul 05 2017

I would also like to join, although probably only for the drinking part.

I seem to remember that last time, [po] would have liked to join but didn't find out about the arrangements until too late. Perhaps someone should send a message?
mitxela, Jul 05 2017

[po] would of course be extremely welcome. I don't think I have her contact details, but if someone else could get a message to her, I'd be all for that.
pertinax, Jul 05 2017

I believe she can be reached by carrier pigeon only.
blissmiss, Jul 05 2017

I wish you all an enjoyable evening and shall raise a measure of Laphroaig at the appointed time.
whatrock, Jul 11 2017

Not sure I can make This Frday (14th) :(
Dub, Jul 11 2017

       What is the venue location?
Ian Tindale, Jul 12 2017

The Bleeding Heart* is on Bleeding Heart lane (Yard?), just West of Farringdon Station, and Ye Olde Mitre is situated a bit South-West from there, down a tiny alleyway that runs between Hatton Garden and Ely Place - if you see the big Glass Sainsburys building (Sainsburys HQ 33 Holborn) then you've gone too far (or not far enough, depending). It's relatively nearby though.

       * Ahh, but is it the Bleeding Heart Bistro, or the Bleeding Heart Restaurant? (The map suggests these are separate venues - from memory, it was the one further around the corner and definitely not the Bleeding Heart Tavern)
zen_tom, Jul 12 2017

       Pigeon dispatched...
[he's walking...]
Pigeon-steps, of course
Dub, Jul 12 2017

       It's the bistro.
pertinax, Jul 13 2017

And, yes, it's down an alleyway.
pertinax, Jul 13 2017

       I'm getting all excited. :)

If zen, dub, ian & denholm are going to be joined by theleopard and maybe po, we're gonna need a bigger table!

No-one seems to have contacted "kippers and croissants" on skype yet, though.
pertinax, Jul 13 2017

Now there's an annotation that really could benefit from an edit.
Ian Tindale, Jul 13 2017

       I wish I could attend.
//we're gonna need a bigger table!//

       [marked-for-tagline]

We went we drank we're on our way home now
Ian Tindale, Jul 14 2017

We missed you on skype, [bliss]; what happened? Are you OK?
pertinax, Jul 14 2017

I'm home now, was on the last DLR of the night!
Ian Tindale, Jul 14 2017

I completely forgot about this. Hope everyone had fun and much drunken giggling was had over mechanical whirring and flashes of flame.
bigsleep, Jul 14 2017

To my regret, Denholm Ricshaw gave me his card, which had a QR code upon it, and I must've thought I'd put it somewhere special in order to take a good look at it later when I put my glasses on. I have absolutely no trace of said card now. Sorry about that.
Ian Tindale, Jul 15 2017

Wish I could have been there (this annotation added from a train somewhere in France)
hippo, Jul 15 2017

I never go to these. I'm too busy experimenting with magnetic milk.
xenzag, Jul 15 2017

       That animated photo is hilarious
notexactly, Jul 15 2017

I'm diluted to see that at least one of the halfbakers represented in the photographs understands the correct and proper use of tobacco as a key element of civilisation.
MaxwellBuchanan, Jul 15 2017

It was rather splendid to meet and put names to faces.

       To the next one...

[Ian] I'll update the profile page
DenholmRicshaw, Jul 16 2017

(another) excellent oppotunity to solve some of the World's current problems (even if it didn't know it had them). To the next one. Lovely to meet new/old faces. Here's [ DenholmRicshaw]'s QR code in Morse Code Dash-dash-space dot space dot ...
Dub, Jul 16 2017

Should we break it to Maxwell that the tobacco using person hiding in plain sight like an elephant was not in fact a halfbaker but was the person who photographed the initial photograph before a more able member of their party took over the handling of my phone, but he lingered nevertheless. We don't know who any of them were, but we needed a photo taken, and they were standing nearby.
Ian Tindale, Jul 16 2017

No, he was obviously a HB hanger-on who was too shy to announce his moniker (this time)
I'll name him [Nuber] {famed for suggesting an idea of VERY cheap taxi service where all clients must be licensed drivers, and all drivers are provisional-licensed learners who need lots of practise.}
