"Buck naked, I found myself in the middle of downtown with everybody staring at me. I didn’t understand until my reflection in a shop window caught my eye. To my horror I spied the appendage hanging out from my body. Its ruddy, folded skin and dark hole made me shudder.

Luckily I noticed the products displayed in the window and knew that my problems would soon be over. I rushed inside to get help from a clerk. 'No, they’re not pretty organs,' she agreed, 'But ears can be covered and made attractive and even entertaining. Our AuraVoir (from ‘ear’ and ‘see’) selection is sure to include an ear band shell to flatter and cultivate your every outer ear.'

The store had all manner of colorful concave shells that fit comfortably in the ear, held in place by hooks above and below. In the middle of each was a tiny lit scene with centimeter high figures that moved about slightly as if on a miniscule music box. The aural sounding board provided amazing acoustics to the words of the petite actors and singers. The battery-powered fare ranged from a night-clubbing Punch and Judy to a break-dancing Eminem.

I settled for Romeo and Juliet’s balcony scene on the left and Billie Holiday crooning on the right and exited the shop with shelled-head held high and unashamed. Amazingly, I met my girl right outside, and as we strolled down the sidewalk arm in arm, I never thought to check if she was also nude since my eyes were locked on hers, in turn locked on my turned-on ear shell.

Quite a dream, huh?"

...first you're trying to make them flap, now you're trying to cover them up entirely... [DrCurry, Oct 05 2004]

The female on the Sci Fi show "Deep space Nine" had lots of earring chains and stuff. I bet she would buy one of these Ear Shells. (Come on FarmerJohn, you know that is what everyone would end up calling it..ear shells.)

Was hoping for a device to enable one to visualise the one's aura. Oh well.

The ears have said their goodbyes and have slipped into their shells.

       Alternate title possibility: DisappEars.
