Chasing LED lights that encourage alternatives to driving

Drivers on a freeway are often unaware when other more environmentally-friendly means of transportation are even faster than driving on a congested freeway, so a contiguous rope of chasing LEDs installed alongside the freeway can represent the speed of the average bicyclist or mass transit. These lights would be installed around cities that have alternatives to driving activate when traffic reaches a certain speed at a frequently jammed part of the city.

Better to have an actual stream of happy cyclists or bus passengers?

In Perth, the main freeway south of the city has a railway line running down the middle of it, between the two carriageways, so you can watch the actual trains going past. And, yes, for some of its length there's also a cycle path on each side, just beyond the slow lane.

Or you could have Speed Bunnies (link)

Could possibly carry a bicycle on the back of your car. When needed there should be special parking places where you can leave your car so then you can start riding your bike. How would the lights differentiate the speed of a bicycle or mass transit As compared to how fast/slow you are going?

I am hesitating on a croissant because I am thinking this is a little bit confusing to me as to how it would work. Problems going back to get your car…

I'm bunning the name "evildork". [+]

Idea's interesting too but "evildork" is the single greatest HB moniker.

I can't believe that they've been around since '05 and this is the first time I've seen them.

       Walking between the looking...
Well done.

And needlessly irritate all the commuters trying to get OUT of the city for whom such transportation is not a viable alternative, thus contributing to an already growing road rage problem, at least in my city. [-]
